Tikkun Olam Tel Aviv

The words "Tikkun Olam" mean repairing the world. The program called Tikkun Olam has as its goal exposing participants to all of the complexities that are part of Israel.

The Tikkun Olam program and IsraelExperts have this in common, as well as the belief that Israel should embody those highest ideals of the Jewish tradition -- gemilut hasadim (performing acts of loving kindness), tzedakah (charity based on justice), and of course, tikkun olam -- and the Tikkun Olam Tel Aviv-Jaffa program seeks to make those ideals a reality.

Absolutely Israel: Rebuilding Rabin Square
Israeli Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin
Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin was assassinated on November 4th 1995.

Rabin Square is the largest open public square in central Tel Aviv. Over the years, many political rallies and other large public events have been held there. After years and years of haggling between those who thought it was an awful eyesore that had to be torn down and rebuilt in a style more befitting a modern city and those who felt that it was part of Tel Aviv history that should be preserved, sprucing up of the square was finally begun in the summer of 2011, and is slated to be completed before the end of the year.

Taking a bite out of Hanukah with a slightly different twist
Hannukah Donuts
Donuts in Israel are a work of art during Hanukah

The winter has come, the rain has started and the candles are being readied to twinkle in the windows. The aroma of Sufganiot (donuts) wafts through the air as people get ready to ingest lots of calories with this special treat.

The donuts are not just fried in oil. Over the past decade or so, donuts have become an art form as people celebrate the Hanukah season with originality.

Check out some of the different special flavors of donuts that can be found in Israel.
